Balladine — The Creation
A ballade, in the musical sense, is a piece that wanders.
It has no fixed destination — it follows the path, lingers on a chord, then gently moves on.
Balladine was born from this image: a score that accompanies forest walks, when the light shifts between the trees and the colours blend into each other without one knowing exactly where one ends and the other begins.
The construction unfolds in three distinct registers, like three movements of the same piece.
- The upper yoke is made of ecru square fishnet stitch, openwork, light — a muted introduction.
- The thin straps are braided, tied at the shoulders, with that adjustable freedom that allows the piece to adapt to the wearer's body.
- Then comes the heart of Balladine: horizontal bands in fan and shell stitch, worked in a precise gradient that tells the story of a forest sunset.
Plum violet first — deep, almost nocturnal. Then mauve, which lightens.
Powder pink, salmon pink, which warm up. Sage green finally, like the ferns on the ground.
Each colour change is a manual yarn join, each band a different note in the same melody. The piece ends with an openwork ecru fishnet band, edged with a tight stitch — the final silence after the last note.
Balladine is worn with a long skirt or flowing trousers, for days when one walks without rushing.
