This Hungarian master of Op Art who spent his life making shapes vibrate, creating illusions of movement and depth on flat surfaces.
Vasarello is a piece that pays homage to this tradition — a piece that says crochet can be Op Art, that stitch can create illusions, that craftsmanship can be as sophisticated as painting.
The foundational decision for Vasarello is the large concentric granny square with undulating bands.
From an invisible center, multicolored bands gradually widen — orange, green, white, pink, purple, yellow, turquoise, burgundy, mint — but not in a regular, predictable way.
The bands undulate, deform, widen and narrow irregularly, creating an effect of perspective and movement of absolute sophistication and beauty.
It's a crocheted optical illusion — a shape that seems to move closer and further away at the same time, creating depth where there is only surface.
Vasarello's palette is one of absolute joy.
Bright orange — sunny, vibrant, irresistible.

Black is Vasarello's structuring decision. It frames and structures everything — the ribbed black round neck, the ribbed black hem, the long sleeves in black openwork grid stitch.
It's what gives the piece its rigor and sophistication, what says that behind the explosion of colors, there is a precise and controlled architecture.
Without black, Vasarello would be joyful — with black, it is sophisticated.
