Crochet — Creation
Uncinetto. In Italian, it's simply the word for crochet — that small metal or bone hook, that age-old gesture that transforms yarn into fabric.
But in Burano, the island of lacemakers off the coast of Venice, uncinetto is much more than a tool. It's a transmission. Hands that learned from hands that had learned from other hands, under the same Venetian sun, in the same houses with brightly painted facades so that fishermen could find them in the fog.
Uncinetto is a tribute to those hands — and to all those who, whether they come from Burano or elsewhere, continue to crochet.
The construction relies on very tight horizontal bands of ripple and chevron stitch, worked in a multicolored variegated yarn of rare richness: vibrant fuchsia, plum purple, salmon pink, chocolate brown, golden beige. These colors are not chosen separately — they coexist in the same yarn, twisted together, and it is the crochet hook that reveals them, strip after strip.
Each row creates a scalloped wave effect that interlocks with the next, like the tiles of a Venetian roof.
The result is a dense, semi-opaque fabric with remarkable visual depth — which changes with the light, with the angle, with the time of day.
The slightly flared boat neck, the integrated very short cap sleeves, the straight cut slightly flared downwards — identical front and back — give Uncinetto a look that is both simple and sophisticated.
