Toccata — The Creation
The toccata is an ancient musical form — a prelude, an introduction, a way to place one's fingers on the keys before the music truly begins. The word comes from the Italian toccare, to touch. A light, exploratory touch, skimming before pressing.
Bach wrote sublime ones — those pieces that seem to improvise, that find their way in the morning light, that reach the ears like a caress before the day is fully here.
Toccata was born from that moment — those first rays of dawn when everything is still soft, still possible, still suspended between night and what is to come.
The color is the first thing one notices: that heathered pink with off-white that isn't really pink, not really white, but something in between that changes with the light, with the time of day, with the angle of perception.
The heathering gives the material a subtle depth — one sees the threads intertwine, the pink advancing, the white receding, that inner vibration that distinguishes Toccata from a simple summer top.
The construction is of a gentle precision.
The round neckline is edged with a delicate openwork stitch — that light fringe that frames without constraining. The body is worked in a slightly textured tight stitch — dense, structured, giving the piece its shape without stiffening it.
At the bottom, the scalloped shell border finishes with that undulating movement that is the signature of handmade crochet. The cut is straight, slightly trapezoidal — 48 cm in length, a just proportion.
It can be worn tucked into a midi skirt or high-waisted pants, or left loose over shorts or jeans — depending on the mood of the day, depending on the light.
A light touch. Like soft music at dawn.
