Labegitou — The creation
Labegitou — a word that sounds like a nursery rhyme, like something you say laughing, like a name you invent for something you love too much to give it a serious name.
The rainbow is one of the few things in the world that brings together all colors without excluding any. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet — each in its place, in its order, in its light.
It appears after the rain, when the sun returns, and it lasts just long enough for us to want to keep it.
Labegitou is that rainbow — worn, woven, crocheted color by color.
The horizontal fan and shell stitch bands follow each other in the full summer palette: bright red, sun yellow, fuchsia pink, royal blue, sky blue, mint green, white, lilac.
Each band is a distinct, bold and assertive color, which dialogues with its neighbors without merging into them. The fan stitch gives each band that undulating movement, that lightness of a wave that makes the piece seem alive, in motion, even when laid flat.
The black braided straps with knots at the shoulders and the black-edged neckline frame this rainbow with precision — the black that contains, that structures, that gives all these colors their coherence.
The cut is crop, short. The cream-white scalloped border at the bottom finishes the piece softly.
A rainbow that can be worn with white jeans or beige pants — and needs nothing else.
